Best Places to Visit in Mussoorie with your Family

Mussoorie is a famous hill station of Uttarakhand, India which is about 35 kms from Dehradun. It is in the foothills of the Garhwal Himalayan range. If, you are a nature lover or want to spend some quality time with your family and kids, Mussoorie is the best tourist destination to plan your vacation.

Mussoorie gets flooded with visitors in summer vacations from May to July. This is the peak season which usually starts from April and lasts till mid July.

If you want to experience snow fall in Mussoorie, December to Mid February is best time. August to September is usually covered with heavy rain falls in Mussoorie.

1. Kempty Falls

Kempty Falls is one of the popular tourist attractions of Mussoorie, located on the way of Dehradun to Mussoorie. It is a beautiful waterfall where water is coming from a mountain on a height of 40 feet. Enjoy the cool bath under Kempty Falls like a water adventure park which offers you ample space for swimming also. Summers and Monsoon is the best time to visit Kempty Falls. This place is perfect for picnics, there are few restaurants also where you can enjoy delicious food. Opening time is 6 am to 6 pm. No Entry Fee.

2. Lal Tibba

Lal Tibba is the highest point of Mussoorie, 2,346 metres above sea level. If you are visiting Mussoorie, don’t miss this attraction. This place gives the complete view of the Mussoorie hills and you can have beautiful views of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Banderpunch and other Himalyan ranges using the Japanese telescope installed here. Other things that visitors love to do here – take selfies, photography, beautiful view of sunset and sunrise, enjoy the scenic beauty around this place.

3. Gun Hill

Gun Hill is the second highest point of Mussoorie from where you can have the view of Doon Valley and whole Mussoorie. The main attraction of this place is Cable car, which is about 40 meters long and give you a beautiful view of Mussoorie. Using cable car from Gun Hill point you reach to Jhula Ghar near Mall Road. Gun Hill point is also a small shopping space of Mussoorie where you get few shops and food points. You can also dress-up here like Kings and Queens in traditional dresses and get your photographs clicked. Entry to Gun Hill point is free. All days open from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm.

4. Mall Road

Mall Road is the busiest place of Mussoorie and is best known for shopping and eating places here. It has number of shops where you can buy home décor items mostly handmade, wooden handcrafts, woolen caps and other woolen clothes. It also offers a range of restaurants of every budget offering North Indian, South Indian and Chinese food. There are many hotels also located on Mall Road. You can easily spend at least half of your day while exploring the whole place.

Company Garden also known as Company Bagh or Municipal Garden is about 3 kms from Mussoorie Library, Gandhi Chowk. This place is filled with full of greenery specially flowers of 800 different species and a small nursery where a range of saplings are available for sale. This place is a complete picnic spot where you will get swings for children, an artificial lake with boating and food court. Garden is divided into small sections, where you can take selfies, have food, sit with your family and enjoy your whole day in this green park.

6. Camel’s Back Road

Camel’s Back Road is a 3 km long road in Mussoorie. This is called as Camel Back Road because of having a shape like a Camel’s hump at the end of the road. It is a calm place with natural beauty all around. Visitors prefer walking and jogging here. It is one of the popular places of Mussoorie for taking selfies, photography and adventures. This road is having a famous Hawa Ghar for visitors to having some rest. With the help of telescopes available here, visitors can have a closer look of the peaks of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, Yamunotri, Chaukhamba, Nanda Devi and Trishul.

7. Library Bazaar

Library Bazaar is a very famous place of Mussoorie. This is called as Libraray Bazaar because of the famous Mussoorie Library situated here. This library was established in 1843. It also has a Gandhi Statue, so often called as Gandhi Chowk. Bazaar is arranged in a circular path having many small shops and food stalls. The best part about Library Bazaar is it’s having a religious place for every Dharma. Bazaar is surrounded by Laxmi Narayan temple, Gurudwara Singh Sabha, Amania Mosque and Christ Church. For shoppers it is a place to buy traditional items and hand woven woolen clothes.

8. Happy Valley

Happy Valley is a beautiful place and a very popular tourist attraction of Mussoorie. This is a place to enjoy scenic beauty and lush greenery. Here you will feel yourself very close to nature with a fresh breath. It’s only 2 kms from Library bus terminal. Happy Valley is also called as mini-Tibet which is home of about 5,000 Tibetan refugees. Happy Valley also houses a Tibetan Temple, Monastery  which was established by 14th Dalai Lama. Opening hours of temple are 5 am to 12 noon; 4 pm to 9 pm.

9. Mussoorie Lake

Mussoorie Lake is an artificial man-made lake which is situated on Dehradun-Mussoorie road, 6 km before Mussoorie. This is also one of the famous picnic spots in Mussoorie where people can enjoy boating with scenic views and a number of eating places offering good food. Opening hours are 8:00 am to 7:00 pm.

10.Jwala Devi Temple

Jwala Devi Temple, also known as Jwala Ji Temple is situated at the top of the Benog Hill at an altitude of 2100 m in Mussorie. It is a very old temple dedicated to Goddess Durga which is housed with the stone idol of Devi Jwala. It is believed that wishes of devotees are granted here who come for Devi’s blessings. A complete view of the Doon Valley, Yamuna Valley and Yamuna River is visible from here. The path of the temple is covered with Oak and Deodar Trees.
