A Tour of Delhi Zoo – National Zoological Park Delhi
National Zoological Park Delhi (Delhi Zoo) also called Chidiya Ghar is located near The Old Fort in Delhi. The park was inaugurated in November 1959. Average daily footfall in Delhi Zoo is around 5000 visitors a day. This numbers goes between 10,000 to 20,000 visitors on Weekends (Saturday, Sunday).
Delhi Zoo is having 1350 animals with 130 species of animals and birds from around the world. Park is spread across 176 acres of land.

Animals in Delhi Zoo
At Delhi Zoo you can see animals like black buck, white buck, leopard, Chinkara, chimpanzee, hippopotamus, spider monkey, African wild buffalo, Giraffes, Lion, Elephant, Deer Brow, Hoolock Gibbon, One-horned rhinoceros, royal Bengal tiger, Himalayan black bear, Indian Porcupine, jaguar, wild boar, Crocodile and Zebras.
Birds in Delhi Zoo
Birds section includes migratory birds like peafowl, hyenas, macaques, and jaguars. Great Indian Hornbill, peafowl, spoonbill and eagles can also be found here.
Reptiles in Delhi Zoo
The center of the Zoo has underground reptile house which has different lizards and snakes. In reptile section you may find Indian star tortoise, Indian rock python, common rat snake, Indian cobra, Diadem snake and Indian sand boa.

Online Ticket Booking for Delhi Zoo
To maintain social distancing the guest’s capacity has been limited in Delhi Zoo. So, onsite tickets are not available at Delhi Zoo. You may book your online tickets in advance by visiting the National Zoological Park’s official Government site. Visit here to buy your online ticket – https://nzpnewdelhi.gov.in/users/new
- You need to register on the website for ticket booking.
- Tickets are not-refundable.
- You can only reschedule your visit within 30 days of ticket booking.

Delhi Zoo Timings
- 1st April to 15th October: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- 16th October to 31st March: 9:00 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Zoo remains closed on every Friday and National Holidays.
What you can carry inside the Zoo
Food items are not allowed in the Zoo area. You can only carry water. Phone is allowed (with and without camera both)
Cameras at Delhi Zoo
- You can carry camera in Delhi Zoo but you have to pay extra for it.
- Still Camera Rs. 50/- per day
- Amateur Rs. 200/- per day
- Documentary Rs. 2000/- per day
- Feature Film Rs. 20,000/- per day
Canteens in Delhi Zoo
Canteens are available in Delhi Zoo. After every few meters you will get a canteen, but no food items will be there. You can only buy water bottles, cold drinks, ice-cream, tea and coffee at very reasonable prices.

- Battery Operated Vehicles / Rikshas are available in Delhi Zoo.
- Tickets for adults Rs. 50
- Tickets for children above 5 years Rs. 50
Nearest Metro Station of Delhi Zoo
Supreme Court Metro Station (earlier known as Pragati Maidan Metro Station) is the nearest metro station for Dehli Zoo. It is about 2 km from the zoo.
How to reach from Chidiyaghar Metro Station – You may either take an Auto Riksha from metro station to Zoo or can walk as well.
Delhi Zoo Cafeteria
There is a big cafeteria at the entry of Chidiya Ghar Delhi. You can easily sit and can have different types of snacks at the cafeteria includes Dosa, Noodles, Paw Bhaji, Samosa, Bread Pakora and more. You can also enjoy Tea, Cofee, Ice cream, Lassi, Cold drinks etc.
Parking at Chidiya Ghar Zoo Delhi
If you are coming by your own vehicle; car or bike, you can easily park your vehicle at the parking area of Chidiya Ghar Delhi. This parking is paid.
